Things to do for Pride Month | Central | Causewaybay | Little Bao

by Danielle Lam

Every year in June, cities around the world observe Pride Month. The event honours the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan, when on June 28 police entered gay bar Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, a safe refuge where gay men and lesbians could safely socialize, and took several patrons into custody. Although this wasn’t the first time young members of the LGBTQ community had faced harassment or discrimination, this event sparked violent confrontations between bargoers and police that lasted for five days, becaming a symbol of LGBTQ solidarity. While Hong Kong still falls behind other nations in legally recognizing gay partnerships, pride events abound during June. Here, find out where and how to celebrate Pride Month 2022 in Hong Kong.
